history
There are those who make the bread, and there are those who eat it. The Yronwood name is highly regarded in the world of smithing weapons and armor, and they have long since established themselves as craftsmen who cater to the elite. Though Siham's forebear laid claim to the Yronwood name, he was only a third son of a more distant family branch that was just out of reach of being able to enjoy the full glory of his family's riches and prestige. Sick of being known as a third-rate despite his work, he left the kingdom of Farkhan to re-establish himself on the newly discovered island of Woodkeep, taking with him his wife and the bulk of his still-considerable wealth. His dreams of become a lord, living off the labor of his land, and allowing his money to generate its own profit met the realities of the frontier landscape. A population suddenly forced into self-sufficiency had no need for a smith who'd only been trained to create elaborate armor and extravagant swords. He clung on so tightly to the idea of his family status that rather than pawn off the material wealth that served as proof of the power of the Yronwood name, he shifted his work from the filigreed, enameled, and jewel-laiden to the plain and necessary: nails, horseshoes, axe blades. He regarded it as a joke to his skill and experience with metalworking for a more refined taste, but the damage had been done. Farkhan was shut to him, and the rest of the Yronwoods were unlikely to be willing to overlook the selfish ambitions of a Yronwood son who put personal glory over advancing the family business.
As the economy stabilized and grew, so did the lone Yronwoods of Woodkeep with it. Slowly their reputation was rebuilt as the craftsmen of nobles and kings. However, the dreams of individual glory were never actually given up, merely passed down from generation to generation. When Siham was born, her father saw the chance he had wanted, but in a form he had not been able to realize before. Here was the true, newly invented Yronwood: Siham the dragonrider. Her parents' gnawing hunger for status and prestige must have sustained her in the womb, as there is little else that motivates her to action. She has always carried with her an elitist attitude that tries to force the world around her to conform to what she thinks to be true of herself. Her parents had made it a point to let her know about the jealously guarded chests of jewelry and expensive silk clothing that was to be hers to flaunt when they had built themselves up to the point where people would not laugh at the idea of a blacksmith's daughter dressed as lavishly as a princess.
As a silverrider and a dragon knight, she has achieved some measure of the renown that her family believes is their natural lot in life. However, the aggressive determination that had driven her through the ranks has only grown with every step forward. There is a ravenous hunger that lays barely concealed, and it's considered both with fear and great satisfaction when she applies it to militaristic pursuits. An enthusiastic front-lines fighter, she gives off the impression that she actually looks forward to the possibility of violence- and of subjugating those who prove to be weaker. It would be a fair assessment of her after all.
