►HISTORY
Hundreds of years ago, humans were separated into two kingdoms - Elyrios and Farkhan. The rest of the world was still dangerous and uninhabited, until a group of explorers from both kingdoms left on an expedition to find another settlement for humans to live. After many years and many deaths, the few remaining humans washed up on the shores of an unnamed island that was relatively safe. But something found on the island astounded even the most seasoned of warriors...
...dragon eggs.
They weren't sure what species the eggs were at first. It seemed that the parents of the nest had vanished. The humans cared for the eggs and when they hatched, the baby dragons bonded - or Imprinted - upon one human each. This bond was something inexpiable; the dragon's mind became one with the human's and they could see through one another's eyes and feel their thoughts and emotions. They could telepathically speak to one another as well, but humans could not talk to other dragons freely as they talked to their own. Dragons could speak to one another, but could not speak to other humans as they spoke to their kind.
With their new-found friends, half of the humans left to go back to their respective kingdoms. But on the way back their dragons became ill and died, and the eggs they brought back with them never hatched. The other humans stayed behind, eventually settling the island by building a large wooden keep right in the middle. Word of their new land spread like wildfire, along with the idea of the dragons that had been found there. Soon waves of humans arrived, and Woodkeep was born.
When the humans left their respective kingdoms, however, they were forced to strip themselves of residency with them. If one left the kingdoms, they could no longer return as per the monarchy's orders. Upset that they were losing so many of their population to this new land, knights were dispatched from the kingdoms to destroy whomever had left them. However, the seas mysteriously became too rough for the humans to make their way to Woodkeep, and in the end a great war was spared. The two kingdoms decided to leave Woodkeep alone, but never traded with the inhabitants.
This hurt Woodkeep, but they somehow persevered. It were as if the gods themselves were watching over the island. Eventually as time progressed the keep was replaced with a stone castle, and quarters were built for those who had Imprinted upon a dragon. These people and their bonded were called dragonriders, and they were trained how to become one with their mate and how to fight in case the need ever arose.
Now, peace has settled between the three lands. Elyrios and Farkhan do not trade with Woodkeep nor to they allow people to visit, but the citizens of the island don't seem to mind. They're doing pretty well on their own, and hope that things stay peaceful for many years to come.
