►PLOT
Woodkeep is the name of the large castle that sits in the middle of an island located within the eastern sea. The name comes from the fact that the first people to settle on the island created a large keep out of wood. Today, however, the keep is a large stone castle with multiple floors and rooms for the royal family and their servants to live. Around the castle is Keep's Town, which is where the commoners and workers of the island. Generally the island has no name; it is always referred to as Woodkeep.
But humans aren't the only ones living on the island. Woodkeep is famous for breeding dragons; in fact it is the only place where dragons can be bred and survive. It is currently unknown as to why this is the case...dragon eggs have been taken from the island many times, but they never end up hatching and result in duds. To keep the dragon population alive, Woodkeep refuses to let anyone take dragon eggs from the island.
Behind the castle sits a large sand pit where dragon eggs are placed and incubated by the mother dragon. When the eggs are about to hatch, young ones from the ages of fifteen to twenty one are selected and able to Imprint upon the hatchlings. Baby dragons are known to only Imprint upon one person for their entire lives; if two babies fight over one human, one will eventually die in combat upon the sand. Humans are not allowed to intervene.
Once the hatching is over, the new bonded pairs are raised in the Dragonrider's Quarters on the far side of the island, away from the keep and the commonfolk. Woodkeep trains bonded to become dragonriders, who protect the island when their enemies and neighbors attack. There has yet to be an all-out war, but there have been whispers that the nearby kingdoms want dragons for themselves...
