Sky has lived more in her twenty years than many of the people on Woodkeep, and at times it can show in her personality. At other times the fact that she is still young can shine through. It really depends on the circumstances. But overall it's obvious to most that she seeks redemption for something in her past, something only some people know.
Overall Sky can be quite a fun loving young lady. She's very whimsical and carefree, and can spend hours daydreaming or having fun at the local tavern. It doesn't matter to her what her time is spent doing, as she has plenty of it. She has an easy smile and a quick wit about her, making her tongue sharp but not often deadly. She can also be very commanding when she wants to be, though most of that comes from experience, knowing how to turn her voice from a dreamy young lady to a commanding officer like the flip of a switch.
On the other side of the coin, however, is remorse. Sky dedicates herself toward defending the dragons, toward becoming a great dragonrider--many say it's the only thing she actually takes seriously. Get her in the right mood and that easy smile can turn into an easy frown, especially if she's been drinking too much, as she does from time to time. She can be very reckless, going beyond selfless to just plain stupid, and has been known to disappear completely from time to time without letting anyone know where she goes.

history
Once upon a time there was a sailor. This sailor eventually had a daughter, though the mother passed away soon afterward. The sailor's daughter was a gorgeous young child, and he worked hard to provide for her. She grew up in a small home alongside her aunt, for her father spent much of his time away.
The young daughter was named Sky, for she was as bright as the ocean's sky. And she grew up envying it. Along the sea front of Woodkeep she envied the sky and the sea, and longed to sail the waters and soar through the skies. She was a young dreamer, and from the moment she could she looked for ways to make these things a reality. She went on entire trips with her father, she begged and pleaded for rides on dragons, she just wanted to fly.
The young girl, however, would have her dreams shattered and her world torn apart in a single swoop.
Being very persistent in her dreams, Sky had befriended some dragonriders. Because she was a bright young girl, just reaching the age range for bonding with a dragon, they allowed her to pick an egg to bond with when it hatched. She was very meticulous about which one she wanted, picking carefully from the batch. However the egg never hatched. They called it a dud, there was no baby dragon inside, and passed the egg on. It broke Sky's heart.
Which made her particularly vulnerable for the greater tragedy to follow: news came from abroad shortly after her egg failed to hatch. Remains of her father's ship had been found on a foreign shore. It had been lost in a storm, and they were saying there were no survivors.
Broken and beaten, Sky's world was completely destroyed. She resigned herself for several weeks into a great depression, refusing to even leave her room. There was nothing for her anymore, her dreams of the sky were gone and her father was lost.
However while moping away her time she realized her dreams of sailing the sea, though not as majestic as the sky, were still real.
One night she sneaked out of her home, away from her aunt, and onto a ship. She stowed away, waiting until they were well at sea to make her presence known and offer herself up as part of the crew. It got laughter, followed by anger as the captain realized it was an extra mouth to feed. They housed her, but refused to let her work for her share, saying that she was too young, and that the ship was no place for a woman. She'd probably just get in the way.
Disaster strikes in threes, it seems, as that very ship, on that very voyage, was attacked by pirates.
Yet Sky was not a determined young lady, and she didn't let this deter her. The pirates took her captive alongside many of the other crew, but she knew better. There was no place she would be worth anything as a hostage. So instead she made use of her quick wit and sharp tongue.
Within a year she was captaining her own ship at the tender age of just sixteen. She had a knack for it, she could inspire loyalty and knew exactly how to punish disrespect or mutineers. But piracy was too savage a lifestyle for her. She didn't want to hurt people, so she turned her ventures toward smuggling.
Smuggling one thing in particular: dragon eggs.
They mightn't hatch when they left the island, but the dud eggs themselves were worth a fair fortune, and she knew her way around the sands where they were kept. She turned sights on her old home, now with malicious intent.
Over the next few months she smuggled many eggs out. She was very careful about her selection, focusing on ones she thought might be duds (since she thought she might have a knack for finding them), and never taking enough to draw the full force of Woodkeep's dragonriders. A single egg could feed her crew for a month, after all, and there was no need to get greedy nor risk her crew to the vengeful might of a mother dragon.
She also smuggled other things on the side, in order to draw a profit between eggs. She had to be very careful not to draw too much attention to her endeavors, after all, and she soon gained some renowned as a smuggler.
This went on for two years. She dropped her former family name and simply called herself Sky Blue.
It changed, however, during one unremarkable smuggling raid on the dragon roost. It went on without a hitch, and she was personally carrying the egg from the roost when she felt it stirring. It seemed impossible; the egg had already been written off by a dud. This particular raid had involved paying off the guards watching the dud eggs, after all, yet she'd seen the eggs as they were about to hatch before.
In a panic she sent her crew back to the ship to wait for her. She knew it had to be just her and the dragon. Childish glee rose up from inside as the egg started to crack. She sat for a full hour with the egg in her lap, watching as the baby dragon worked its way out of the shell.
As she held the baby dragon, the little creature exhausted from the effort involved in hatching, she had a moment of realization. She had thought the egg a dud, just as she had many before it as she took them away from the island. No dragon hatched outside of the island. Had she been dragging these babies to their demise, never to be born?
Petrified by this sudden epiphany, her life changed that day. She had bonded with the little purple dragon, and knew she couldn't leave the island again. The pirate, the smuggler, the murderer of baby dragons hung up her hat. She sent her crew off and returned to the island, immediately presenting herself before the dragonriders.
She knew she couldn't tell them what she had done. She knew they would condemn her, so she made up a story about how she had found the egg alone, that it had hatched in her hands. No one remembered the young sailor's daughter who had gone missing several years before, so to them she was just another civilian from the town who had been imprinted upon by a baby dragon. It meant that she was to become a dragonrider, so they accepted her.
For years after that she trained hard. She trained to become the best dragonrider that she could become, that she might defend the roost from others who didn't realize what they might be doing, that she could protect the dragons and Woodkeep.
That maybe, just maybe, she could redeem herself for her past sins.
