Growing up, Selene has always seeked adventure. When she was a young girl, she was a bit more reckless but with age comes wisdom (sometimes). She learned to pick her battles more wisely, and she learned that not all adventures turned out great. When she gained her job, she became more responsible and reliable, instead of the trouble-making youth she used to be. Now she is an honorable and dependable woman, both with her job and when she is off duty. If you ever need someone to confide in, Selene is your best bet. She's friendly and will strike up a conversation with most people, given that they give her the time of day or they do not give her the creeps.
There's a side to Selene that might seem a bit unlike her. It never used to be there, until certain events happened in her life. With the disappearance of her elder brother, her rock and her mentor, her livelihood seems to be crumbling away ever so slightly. She is more sentimental and easily saddened, and while she will not outright sob in front of someone, just a mere mention of something that reminds her of her brother will drive her into silence. She's very touchy as of late, and even the littlest of things will make her frustrated. Something that she has always been is ornery, and even a bit stubborn. Even if someone was to figure out the cause of her sadness, she would not want them to trouble themselves for her sake. It's hard for her to accept help, even if she gives it so willingly.

history
The Merrows have always lived on Woodkeep. Selene comes from a long line of dragonriders, though most of them have consisted of the men in her family. Her grandfather was a famous dragonrider, as was her father, and her elder brother too. She lived a life of comfort due to her family having a good name on the island, which made it easier for them to make money. Her mother helped create cloth and leather armors for the dragonriders, and at one point her father helped at the dragonrider's quarters, training the new cadets and such. Sadly, he started to grow ill and weak. Unable to properly diagnose what was wrong, and unable to deliver the correct remedies, the great dragonrider died in his sleep 11 years ago.
Selene's brother took up the mantle of man of the house. He cared for his weeping mother, and his two younger sisters. At the time, Selene was eight years old, with her elder brother at fourteen and her youngest sister at five. He did his best to raise the girls with authority, but still be close to them like a brother should. Selene was a rambunctious girl when she was younger. She always got into trouble and caused mischief around the neighborhood. Her brother would try to give her a stern talking to, but he always did have a soft spot for her. He loved both of his sisters, but he and Selene were a lot closer. Selene's younger sister was much more maidenlike and a bit more prissy. She always followed the rules and would scold Selene for not being a "proper lady." Needless to say, Selene and her sister didn't always get along.
Growing up in Woodkeep was always exciting. If there were no festivals going on, then there were Dragons giving birth to a clutch of eggs. Selene found herself traveling to the new clutches with her brother to see whether or not she would be getting her dragon. It was a tradition in her family for the men to become dragonriders, but she wanted to be one too! Years passed, and she had not yet gotten a dragon. Her brother finally got his, a bright red dragon, redder than the sun, with just a hint of orange. He soon joined the dragonriders to learn the ways, and he left his sisters behind.
Not all was lost for their family, however. Selene started to do more chores around the house, and her brother did come back a lot to visit, at least once a day, even if he couldn't stay at the house for an extended period of time. As the days went by, his absence grew and once a day turned into a few times a week, and then eventually once a week. It wasn't all that uncommon for him to remain absent for weeks at a time before coming home with a grand story about one of his flights, or one of his training sessions.
That's why, after a raid happened, it wasn't strange that he didn't come straight home right away. Woodkeep had survived a recent raid by a group of pirates, but a few of Woodkeeps dragon riders had gone missing... and Selene's brother was one of those. She has yet to find out, but will she ever? Her longing to see her brother grows every day, and she misses him greatly and wishes they could be closer like they used to. She awaits the day she can get her own dragon so that she can see him more often... Little does she know, she won't.
