a new clutch was coming. a decently large one, too, and wasn't that just something to think about? eight new little personalities, eight new humans with the opportunity to find their soulmates. it was an exciting situation, to be sure, but while most of the others were gathering at the sands to observe and celebrate, he had gone in search of sand of a different kind. he'd always loved the beach, the warm sun, the soothing crash of the waves. iraleth hated it, naturally- sand was so dirty, she always complained, and he knew he'd have to oil her for hours later to make up for it- but though his partner would whine it was worth it.
there was no other place on woodkeep that could relax him so, and with the chaos that the hatching would bring him he could use a little rest and relaxation right now. it was a wonderful chaos, of course, a chaos that he loved, but it was always abrupt going from relative peace to, well, baby dragons everywhere. "you were such a pain when you were little."
"was not!" yeah, he knew she'd been eavesdropping on his thoughts- his dragon didn't seem to be ashamed, though, only the slightest bit offended. "i'm incredibly charming, thank you, i-" he tuned her out quite easily, smiling a little to himself, but iraleth wasn't going to put up with that. oh no, she'd been wronged! the purple dragon had previously been perched a small distance away from the beach, not willing to venture out onto the sand, but his little comment was enough to send her charging after him, spraying sand and dirt every which way as she bounded across the beach.
she only seemed to notice what she'd done as she pulled up beside him- her eyes flashed in what seemed like mild shock and she sat down heavily, huffing at him. he tricked her! he simply smiled and leaned against her warm flank, staring out over the horizon absentmindedly. yes, dragonets were quite a handful, but everything would turn out fine- right? he couldn't help but worry.
naturally he was so deep in thought that he was completely oblivious as to whether or not anyone else was on the beach- they were all at the sands, anyway. right?
